Open Questions, What Blizzard Hasn't Confirmed for PvP

Last updated: September 13, 2026 · This page tracks everything PvP-relevant that has NOT been announced. Each item lists what we know, what's unknown, and what to watch. Beta starts Sept 17, expect fast answers.

Rule for this site: if it's not in an official Blizzard post or on-stage at BlizzCon 2026, it lives here, clearly labeled. No datamined guesses presented as fact.

1. Honor system & PvP ranking, UNKNOWN

  • Known: nothing. Neither panel mentioned honor, ranks, or PvP rewards.
  • Unknown: Does the Classic honor grind (weekly standings, decay, R14) return? A modernized version (SoM-style adjusted brackets)? Something new entirely?
  • Why it matters: with level 60 forever, the PvP reward structure IS the endgame for PvPers. This is the single biggest open question for our audience.
  • Watch: beta datamining from Sept 17; Blizzard's promised follow-up articles.

2. Battlegrounds, UNKNOWN

  • Known: nothing confirmed. Classic Era shipped AV, WSG, AB over its patch cycle.
  • Unknown: Which BGs exist at launch, whether any are new, whether they launch Nov 4 or roll out later (Classic 2019 launched with none). Also unknown: cross-ruleset BG queues, can Normal-ruleset players fight PvP-ruleset players in instanced PvP, or are BG pools ruleset-siloed? Given "cross-ruleset grouping is not supported," siloed pools are plausible but unconfirmed for matchmaking.
  • Watch: beta client maps and queue UI.

3. Arenas / rated PvP, UNKNOWN

  • Nothing announced. Original 1.x had no arenas; whether Forever adds any rated format is pure speculation.

4. Dual spec, UNKNOWN

  • Not mentioned in any panel. With CC-heavy tactical group play plus PvP as a headline ruleset, respec costs matter a lot. SoD added dual spec to a Classic chassis, so precedent exists, but nothing is confirmed for Forever.

5. World PvP objectives, UNKNOWN

  • Classic Era eventually had Silithus/EPL world PvP objectives. Forever adds new zones and expanded original zones, whether any include world PvP objectives, capture points, or events is unannounced.

6. Faction-balance mechanics (specifics), PARTIAL

  • Known: PvP ruleset will have Horde/Alliance balance systems "similar to Season of Discovery."
  • Unknown: exact levers, faction queue at character creation? incentives to under-populated faction? layer-level balancing? SoD's approach was mostly creation restrictions on skewed servers, which doesn't map cleanly onto one region-wide ecosystem.

7. Layering / sharding details, UNKNOWN

  • A region-scale ruleset obviously involves layering tech ("far more players in a single realm than ever before" + Familiar Faces). Unknown: layer sizes, layer-hopping rules, and how layering interacts with world PvP fights and city raids.

8. Battleground/PvP itemization, UNKNOWN

  • Itemization is broadly reworked (unified hit/crit, anti-parry/dodge stats, situational trinkets), but no PvP-specific gear, resilience-like stat, or honor vendor has been mentioned.

9. Remaining racials, PARTIAL

  • Known: Undead and Dwarf reworks (see the classes and races guide); every race gets 2 actives + 2 passives.
  • Unknown: Human, Gnome, Night Elf, Orc, Troll, Tauren kits, including PvP-defining ones like Escape Artist, Perception, Shadowmeld, Hardiness, Berserking, War Stomp. Also everything about Skyborne racials, faction, and classes.

10. Class reveals beyond Paladin, PARTIAL

  • Only Paladin has a detailed preview. Blizzard promised per-class videos/articles. Every other class's new talents/abilities are unknown.

11. Skyborne race, MOSTLY UNKNOWN

  • Confirmed to exist as a new playable race. Faction, classes, racials, and PvP implications: all unknown. (Note the irony to track: a "Skyborne" race in a game with no flying.)

12. Hardcore → PvP transfer details, PARTIAL

  • Known: dead HC characters can transfer to other rulesets including PvP; HC progress can carry out, nothing carries in.
  • Unknown: transfer cooldowns/limits, whether gear comes along intact, name preservation.

13. Content cadence / "seasons", UNKNOWN

  • Level 60 is forever, and Legacy trees/challenges will grow "each patch", but the raid/PvP content release cadence (and whether PvP systems phase in like Classic 2019's honor→BG rollout) is unannounced.

14. Ruleset transfers (non-Hardcore), UNKNOWN

  • Can a Normal character move to PvP later, or vice versa? Only the Hardcore-death exit path is confirmed. Assume your launch ruleset choice is permanent until stated otherwise.
