B tier5v5speculativeDouble mage rot

Two Polymorph schools worth of control and a wall of frost. Melee teams simply never get to play; the risk is that against dispel-heavy comps, neither do you.

Speculative: pre-beta theorycraft that depends on tuning or rules Blizzard has not confirmed. Tiers revised weekly from community theorycraft; see the changelog below.

Game plan

Double Frost Nova and double Polymorph lock the map down while the Warlock rots the two targets flagged for pressure. The Druid kites, the Priest Mana Burns, and synchronized double Frostbolt swaps convert control into kills.

Why it works: synergy

  • Two Mages mean a Polymorph is threatening two places at once, all game.
  • Layered novas and Cone of Cold make melee uptime near zero.
  • Double Counterspell locks two enemy schools per rotation.
  • Synchronized Frostbolt volleys are real burst from an otherwise rot-flavored comp.

Counters

Full dispel coverage strips the frost control layer and Mortal Strike pressures through rot healing.

Three healers absorb frost chip damage indefinitely and Cleanse deletes novas.

Dangers: how this comp loses

  • Dispels are lethal to the entire game plan: novas, Polymorphs and slows all vanish to Cleanse.
  • Modest sustained damage; games can outlast even a double-Evocation mana pool.
  • Two Mages means the enemy always has a soft kill target when cooldowns are down.

What Forever changes

  • Orc Mage (confirmed combo) doubles up on stun resistance for the comp's most-hunted members.
  • Bonus healing to spell damage means enemy healers hit back harder in the long games this comp forces.
